Ibn Abbas mosque is one of the most historically significant mosques in Taif, closely associated with Abdullah ibn Abbas RA, the cousin of Rasulullah SAW and a renowned scholar known as the interpreter of the Al-Quran... it was originally established around 9 Hijrah (630), during the lifetime of Rasulullah SAW... it is believed to have been built on a site that previously housed the pre‑Islamic shrine of al‑Lat, and according to some traditions, Rasulullah SAW prayed at or near this location... it is centrally located in the old city of Taif, near Wadi Wajj, making it a key landmark for religious and historical visits... Ibn Abbas RA spent the later years of his life in Taif teaching Al-Quranic exegesis, Hadith, and jurisprudence, and he passed away in 68 Hijrah (687)... he was buried within the mosque grounds, after which the mosque became widely known by his name and developed into an important centre of learning... over the centuries, the mosque underwent several renovations, with the present structure reflecting modern restoration while preserving its historic significance...
regarding Ibn Abbas’s message about Taif, he regarded the city as a place where hardship was transformed into blessing... although Taif was once a site of severe trial for Rasulullah SAW, Ibn Abbas RA witnessed its transformation into a land known for knowledge, peace, and sustenance... through his life and legacy in Taif, he exemplified the lesson that patience, scholarship, and faith can elevate both people and places, turning a city once marked by rejection into a lasting symbol of Islamic learning and spiritual tranquillity...
