we picked up breakfast from two different stalls at the PKNK food court... the spread included 2 plain roti canai, 1 roti canai telur, and 1 roti canai sardin, along with 2 tosai and a chapati, all served with 2 pieces of chicken curry... a simple yet satisfying mix, perfect for sharing and starting the day on a full stomach... 

Nasi Kandar Yasmeen Restaurant

a trip to Alor Setar never feels complete without a stop at Nasi Kandar Yasmeen restaurant... long established as one of the city’s most iconic makan spots, Yasmeen is known for its rich, aromatic curries, tender fried chicken, beef rendang, and indulgent mixed gravies that hit differently depending on where you try them... operating daily and catering to both lunch and late‑night crowds, this place has long been a favourite gathering port for alumni groups - including the SAHOCA gang... word on the street says in Penang is already surrrrr, but in Alor Setar, it’s on another level altogether... consistent flavours, generous portions, and that unmistakable nasi kandar character make it a timeless pit stop worth repeating again and again...

Top d'Gurun Restaurant

Top d’Gurun restaurant is undoubtedly a must‑stop lunch spot when passing through Gurun, Kedah - especially for its famously bold Sotong Buncit Jahat... located opposite Simpang 3 Guar Nenas in Guar Nenas, the restaurant draws a steady stream of diners eager for satisfying local flavours... as it was Friday, operations were paused briefly from 1:20 pm to 2:00 pm in respect of Friday prayers, so as travellers, we made sure to order ahead of time... and honestly, it was well worth it - the food was rich, flavourful, and genuinely satisfying... portions were generous, the taste hit the mark, and cleanliness was clearly a priority throughout the premises... overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience and definitely a place we’d happily return to again... 

Woodsbury Suites Butterworth

we chose to make our booking through Booking.com at Woodsbury by Micheal, Butterworth, Penang (unit 7722), located along Jalan Chain Ferry, Kampung Perlis, 12100 Butterworth, Penang... our family occupied two rooms in Block B, while Ali and Izzah’s family stayed in three rooms in Block A... upon arrival, we were required to register at the entrance, as the accommodation strictly adheres to the registered number of guests with no allowance for additional visitors... we stayed here for 3D2N, from Wednesday the 21st until Friday the 23rd...

after completing the registration process, we proceeded directly to our respective blocks to collect the keys, parked our vehicles, and headed to our rooms to settle in... we stayed at Unit B‑36‑02 with Wi‑Fi access (wsbrylean113) and parking allocated at Lot L5‑50, while Ali and Izzah and family occupied Unit A‑15‑10 with Wi‑Fi access (0173165257) and parking at Lot L4‑79... the arrangements were clearly organized, making the transition to the accommodation smooth and hassle‑free... we are only permitted to use the swimming pool, while other facilities are reserved exclusively for condominium owners... this was not an issue for us, as our main purpose was to let the children enjoy some time swimming and playing in the pool... to use the swimming pool, we are required to record the name, room number, and number of users in the registration log provided...

Sri Tambang Mee Udang Food Court

not really knowing where to go for dinner - and with no one particularly keen on suggesting a place - we turned to Google and ended up at Sri Tambang Mee Udang food court... located at 949, Jalan Sungai Dua, Pengkalan Tambang, 13500 Permatang Pauh, Penang, this well‑known food court is a popular spot among locals... the place operates daily from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm and is especially famous for its Mee Udang, served with fresh prawns and a rich, flavourful gravy... with a casual setup, ample seating, and a steady flow of diners, it’s a go‑to destination for those craving authentic local fare... I would give it a 5 out of 10... it wasn’t particularly impressive, although the portions were generous... I don’t think I’ll be coming back...

Raffee Nasi Kandar

today’s nasi kandar came a little later than usual, around 3.00 pm, at a restaurant that came highly recommended by many... located at 295‑A, Jalan Burma, Pulau Tikus, 10350 George Town, Penang, the place was already busy upon arrival, and queuing was unavoidable... that aside, from my personal perspective, the overall experience did not quite meet expectations... I would rate it 4 out of 10, mainly because the mixed gravy lacked the punch I was hoping for... perhaps it came down to inconsistency, as there were three different individuals handling the gravy with varying mixing techniques... for me, it’s probably a one‑time visit...

we made a brief stop at Sunway Carnival Mall, located at 3068, Jalan Todak, Pusat Bandar Seberang Jaya, 13700 Perai, Penang... one of the main shopping destinations in mainland Penang, the mall offers a wide range of retail outlets, dining options, and essential services, catering to families and visitors of all ages... with its spacious layout and vibrant atmosphere, Sunway Carnival Mall remains a convenient and popular spot for shopping, dining, and casual leisure...
