Negeri Sembilan State Election 2026

the Negeri Sembilan State Election, held on 1 August 2026, marked a significant shift in the state's political landscape... a total of 36 seats were contested in the State Legislative Assembly, with 19 seats required for a simple majority... the election resulted in a decisive victory for Barisan Nasional (BN), which won 25 seats and secured approximately 56.0% of the popular vote, enabling it to form the new state government... Perikatan Nasional (PN) emerged as the main opposition with 11 seats and about 40.16% of the vote, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) suffered a dramatic decline, failing to win any seat and obtaining only 2.62% of the popular vote... voter turnout reached 72.64%, reflecting strong public participation in the election... following the results, Datuk Ismail Lasim of UMNO-BN became the new Menteri Besar, replacing Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, whose PH-led administration had governed the state since 2018... the election was notable for several high-profile defeats, including prominent PH leaders, highlighting a substantial swing in voter sentiment... compared with the previous state election in 2023, where the PH-BN alliance controlled 31 out of 36 seats, the 2026 election represented a complete political realignment, with BN emerging as the dominant force and PN strengthening its role as the principal opposition... overall, the results demonstrated a major transformation in Negeri Sembilan politics and are likely to have a lasting impact on future state and national electoral strategies...
