FOB Key Stakeholders Roundtable

I was assigned to engage with an industry expert to gather insights on the development of a business programme that integrates sustainability and technology, in line with current and emerging industry trends... this approach is essential to ensure that academic programmes remain relevant, future‑ready, and aligned with real‑world business demands...

current industry‑aligned learning trends emphasize the integration of sustainability, digital transformation, and technology‑driven decision‑making within business education... organizations increasingly expect graduates to possess not only theoretical business knowledge, but also competencies in areas such as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, data analytics, digital systems, automation, and technology‑enabled management practices... sustainability is no longer viewed as an add‑on, but as a core strategic element influencing business models, operations, human resource practices, and long‑term value creation... similarly, technology plays a critical role in enhancing efficiency, innovation, and global competitiveness...

industry‑relevant learning therefore focuses on applied, experiential, and multidisciplinary approaches, including case‑based learning, problem‑solving using real industry scenarios, exposure to digital tools, and cross‑functional knowledge that combines business, technology, and sustainability concepts... this prepares graduates to adapt to rapid changes in the business environment and to lead responsibly in a technology‑driven economy...

in this context, I had the opportunity to meet Mahathir Mohd Bakri, my junior from KSAH, who currently serves as the Director of Human Resources and IT at Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS)... the discussion provided valuable industry perspectives, particularly on the importance of developing graduates with digital literacy, sustainability awareness, adaptability, and strong professional ethics... his insights reinforced the need for business programmes to be continuously reviewed and enhanced in collaboration with industry stakeholders, ensuring graduates are not only employable but also capable of contributing meaningfully to sustainable organizational growth...
