being assigned to conduct a campus tour for a delegation from Indonesia (Dreamile International Academy of Hospitality in Blitar and STIE IBMT University of Management in Medan) at UNITAR required more than simply guiding them from one place to another; it demanded the role of an informed, professional, and approachable campus tour guide... a key requirement is strong knowledge of the campus, including academic faculties, key facilities, student support services, and administrative offices, so that clear and accurate explanations can be given at each destination visited... effective communication skills are equally essential, as I must present information confidently, respond to questions clearly, and adapt explanations to suit an international audience with different educational backgrounds and expectations...
in addition, I must demonstrate cultural sensitivity and hospitality, especially when hosting overseas delegates, by being respectful, attentive, and mindful of cultural norms... proper planning and coordination are also crucial - this includes preparing the tour route, managing time efficiently, and ensuring that the visit flows smoothly without disrupting daily campus activities... I should also possess good interpersonal skills, creating a welcoming environment that reflects UNITAR’s values and identity...
